The Reluctant Runner
The Finish Line Awaits
Explore our posts on running, maybe even (or especially even) you don’t really love running…

Can I run a marathon?
Yes! Maybe not the Boston Marathon but if you are in generally good enough health, you can move your body 26.2 miles.
Should I run every day?
No! Not only can overtraining lead to injury, it would absolutely lead to burnout. Rest days are essential to recovery so plan to run 3 or 4 days a week, resting the other days.
How will I know if I’m overtraining?
Don’t worry, your body will tell you. Increased or persistent fatigue, decreasing performance, changes in mood, and other signs. I’m telling you, rest is essential! Take it as seriously as your mileage.
What kind of running should I do?
Hey, look at you! Already recognising there are different types of runs. You’ll want a mix of easy runs, interval training, and long runs.
How do I choose the right running shoes?
Go to a speciality running store and get fitted. I suggest buying two pairs at the start of training that you can rotate so that come race day you aren’t hitting the pavement in new shoes or shoes that already have hundreds of training miles on them!
How do I stay motivated during training?
Be super realistic when you’re setting your weekly goals, find a buddy or two to keep you accountable, find a podcast or audiobook to look forward to listening to, and be sure to reward yourself when you hit milestones!
